What is the expected life of an APC UPS battery?

Q:What is the expected life of an APC UPS battery?

A: All APC batteries should last three to five years. Below are some guidelines to ensure optimum life expectancy:

1. Make sure that the APC UPS battery is kept in a cool, dry location with plenty of ventilation. Ideally, the temperature where a UPS is kept should not exceed 75° F (24° C). Also, for ventilation purposes, leave roughly one to two inches on each side for proper airflow.

Read more »

APS Smart UPS 掛點

Posted in Daily, Linux, Storage on February 18th, 2008 by Banbanli

Seagate shells $1.9B for Maxtor
Seagate Technology LLC. and Maxtor Corp. announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Seagate will acquire Maxtor in an all-stock transaction. Under the terms of the agreement, which has been unanimously approved by the board of directors of both companies, Maxtor shareholders will receive .37 shares of Seagate common stock for each Maxtor share they own. When the transaction is completed Seagate shareholders will own approximately 84% and Maxtor shareholders will own approximately 16% of the combined company. The value of the transaction is approximately $1.9 billion.

“Just A Bunch Of Disks” (JBOD)

Posted in Computer, Storage on October 5th, 2005 by Banbanli

http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/perf/raid/levels/jbod.htm

If you have some disks in a system that you decide not to configure into a RAID array, what do you do with them? Traditionally, they are left to act as independent drive volumes within the system, and that’s how many people in fact use two, three or more drives in a PC. In some applications, however, it is desirable to be able to use all these disks as if they were one single volume. The proper term for this is spanning; the pseudo-cutesy term for it, clearly chosen to contrast against “redundant array of inexpensive disks”, is Just A Bunch Of Disks or JBOD. How frightfully clever.
